My 1972 blazer 4 by feels like it wants to wander all over the road. It was really bad when i started working on it,scary.I replaced the steering box,welded the frame,replaced the leaf springs(3inch lift),checked or replaced balljoints,and new steering shock.It is allot better but i still feel like ihave to pay attention when i drive.

I worked as an alignment tech

I worked as an alignment tech for years, and have had many customers with your same story. Two conditions are most likely the current problem. the reason I say current condition is because the original problem has most likely been fixed, but in the process two other conditions could have been created. First we will talk about the ball joints that were replaced. On a solid axle like you have, the upper ball joint has a threaded collar to adjust the pre load on the ball joints. If this preload is not set properly it will act just like a frozen ball joint, and will have a condition called Tractor Steer. The same goes for the preload on the steering box, if it is adjusted too tight. When driving at road speed Tractor Steer will feel like something is loose, but in fact it is too tight, and you are over correcting as you drive. The test to see if it is too tight is turn a conner and let go of the steering wheel ( best done in a empty parking lot 20-25 mph ) If the steering wheel turns back on it's own, and the truck drives straight, your good. If it does not and continues to turn, your to tight. do this test if you can and post your results. then i can help you some more.

Sounds like you may have hit on something there, besides a possible caster issue. I'll admit, I've never heard that particular term before, but I know the symptoms. We always called it Memory Steer, though. Must be a difference in regions for terminologyLaughing.

I'm in farm country myself

I'm in farm country myself (East Central Illinois) but work i the city, most folks I know have never even driven a tractor, so they wouldn't know how one drove anyway!Laughing

Been forever since I've driven mine, actually. It's torn apart in the other garage. One of these days...

Yes same thing, I live in farm country, Tractor steer was easier for customers to understand.

first thought

would be sidewall flex. Add another 5psi to your tires and see how that feels. If it makes a difference at all, that's your source. You might need to go to a larger rim and smaller aspect ratio. What size rubber are you running?

Since you have a lift I assume you are running bigger tires.

Are you running a steering damper?

Depending on the sze and weight of the tires you may have to go to stronger steering compontents like the connencting rod that goes from knuckle to knuckle.

There is no problem that cannot be ratified without the use of high explosives.

im kinda leaning towards a

im kinda leaning towards a bent frame, if all other avenuse have been taken, i mean u basicaly replaced the whole front end that is the only thing i can think of others may have other ideas, but i think it is the frame. most big body shops have frame straiteners as well as the equipment to check it. was the truck abused at 1 time or another, or was the front springs bagged? i bent the frame of a '78 half ton chev jumping it lol, so it can happen

i just had an afterthought, the rear leafs can also affect the steering too, if you have 1 broken or sagging spring, or if the rear axle is out of trueness, take a bunch of measurements and see if anything is wonky there too and look down the frame for any cracks or buckles study it for anything irregular

if i have anymore ideas i will post them, im sure others will too

have you gotten an alignment? also how are the tie rod ends?

sometimes too it can be a slightly tweaked frame, not too many people were nice to their blazers over the years, but i would say having an alignment guy look at it they have all the right tools for that stuff

Yes.I have had two different

Yes.I have had two different front end shops look at it.The last shop tightend up the steering box which seemed to helped but he told me he was stumped.
